What We Offer.

At Layers Counseling Specialists, we provide specialized, evidence-based care for individuals, children (ages 5+), teens, and families. Whether you’re managing OCD, anxiety, ADHD, an eating disorder, or any of our other specialties we’ll work together to help you achieve your goals with a tailored treatment plan.

Individual Therapy

At Layers, individual therapy is one-on-one support built entirely around you. Whether you're navigating intrusive thoughts, anxiety that won't quiet down, the weight of past experiences, or just a sense that something feels off, you don't have to figure it out alone.

We offer individual therapy for children (ages 5+), teens, and adults, and we thoughtfully match you with a clinician whose training fits what you're walking through. Our work is evidence-based and deeply human, which means we use approaches with real research behind them while never losing sight of the person in front of us.

We help with:
Anxiety, panic, & phobias
ADHD (including late-diagnosed teens and adults)
Autism (children, teens & adults)
ARFID & food-related anxiety
Trauma & PTSD

PLAY THERAPY

For children as young as 3, putting big feelings into words isn't always possible yet, so we meet them where they are. Play therapy uses play — a child's most natural language — to help them express what they can't yet say, work through worry and overwhelming emotions, and build the skills to feel more like themselves again.

Play therapy can support children with:

• Anxiety and worry
• Big or hard-to-manage emotions
• Behavioral challenges
• Life transitions and family changes
• Grief and loss
• Trauma
• Social and emotional development

For autistic children, we also offer AutPlay Therapy, a play-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach designed specifically for neurodivergent kids.

A note for parents: Your child is usually seen one-on-one, with monthly parenting consultations so you stay closely involved — getting guidance, updates, and practical strategies to support your child at home. You're a key part of this work, even when you're not in the room.

HOW WE WORK

Therapist at Layers Counseling Specialists in Plano, TX

What to expect

We see clients both in person at our Plano office and online across Texas — whichever feels most comfortable for you. Knowing what's coming makes reaching out a little easier, so here's exactly what the first two steps look like.

Step one: Your free 15-minute consultation
Reaching out is often the hardest part, so we keep this simple. Your consultation is a free, 15-minute video call with the clinician you'd actually be working with — not a sales rep, not a call center. (For a child, this call is usually with you, the parent or caregiver.)

It's a chance to:

• Share a little about what's bringing you (or your child) in
• Get a feel for the therapist and how they work
• Ask anything — about their approach, scheduling, or fees
• Decide together whether it feels like the right fit

There's no pressure and no commitment. If we're not the right fit, we'll gladly help point you toward someone who is.

Step two: Your first session
Once you're booked, we'll send your intake paperwork through our secure client portal. Please complete it at least 24 hours before your intake appointment — it helps us make the most of your time together and keeps your first session focused fully on you.

Your first session (about 50 minutes) is mostly about getting to know you. Your therapist will ask what brought you in, a bit of your history, and what you'd like to feel different. You set the pace — there's no pressure to share everything on day one. By the end, you'll leave with a sense of direction and a collaborative plan for where to go from here.

For younger children, this first session usually includes time with you, the caregiver, to gather history and goals and help your child get comfortable in the space.

You don't need the right words or a tidy explanation of what's wrong. You just need to show up. We'll take it from there.
